Free one-page resume template for long careers

Small type, tight spacing and capital section labels in teal. It fits a long career onto one page without looking crowded.

Free, with no sign-up. A Word .docx file, 11 KB.

The one-page resume template, page one: Name and line, Profile, Experience, Education and certificates, Skills, with [brackets] to fill in.
Page one, blank, as it downloads.

What this template is for

Senior people often have the opposite problem from graduates: too much to say. Recruiters and owners still want one page. This template sets the text at 9.5 point in IBM Plex Sans with narrow margins, and puts each role's years in a left column, so a long career reads as a clean list.

Use it for manager, head of and director roles, for consultants with many engagements, and for anyone whose second page never gets read.

What is in it, section by section

  • Name and lineYour name, then one line with your title, email, phone and city, separated by bars.
  • ProfileThree lines on your scope, your strengths and the results you are hired for.
  • ExperienceA two-column table without borders. Years on the left. Role and company in bold on the right, with one or two results under each.
  • Education and certificatesOne line: degree, institution and year, then certificates with their year.
  • SkillsOne line, languages included.

How to fill it in

  1. Start with your last ten years. Older roles can be one line each, with no points.
  2. Keep each result to one line. If it wraps, cut words, not the result.
  3. Group short contracts under one entry, such as "Independent consultant" with the years.
  4. Use the profile to show the level you work at: team size, budget, markets.
  5. Print it once. Type that reads well on screen can feel small on paper, so do not go below the template's size.

Questions

Is small type a problem for readers?

At 9.5 point in a clear sans it reads well printed and on screen. Do not go smaller. If it still does not fit, cut older roles before you shrink the type.

Should I include every job I have had?

No. Include what supports the role you want. Roles from long ago can be one line or left out.

Where do certificates go?

On the education line, with the year. List the ones a reader would check for.

What if I want two pages?

Then the classic or modern resume fits better. They give each role more room and are easier to read at length.

Use it in Supernatural

Supernatural: everything your business runs on, with Blue as your part-time admin. Word is one of its apps. In your workspace, you ask Blue for “a one-page resume for a senior role”. Blue starts from this template, writes in what you give it, and leaves [brackets] where something is missing. Before it makes the document, Blue shows you which template it chose and what it will write. Nothing is made until you say yes.
